Farewell Dennis David Kamakahi (1953-2014)

Farewell to Hawaii musician, singer, songwriter, Christian minister, and Hawaiian culture and music historian Dennis David Kamakahi who passed away in Honolulu on Monday, April 28, 2014 at age 61.
Dennis won many Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards over the years, his recordings were included on three Grammy award winning slack key guitar albums, and in 2009 he was given a lifetime achievement award by the Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts. 

I took this picture of Dennis with Norton Buffalo (1951-2009) when they were in Southern California to attend the 2009 Grammy Awards ceremony because of their contributions to the Grammy nominated album "Spirit of Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar". 

Feeling the loss... my condolences to his family and the Hawaiian music world.

2010 Gabby Pahinui Waimanalo Kanikapila

HAWAIIAN MUSIC ALL DAY ON BEAUTIFUL WAIMANALO BEACH: The 2010 Gabby Pahinui Waimanalo Beach Kanikapila will take place on Saturday, August 7, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Waimanalo Beach Park on the southeast side of Oahu Island. The event will feature an unbelievable lineup of performers including the Pahinui Brothers, Alan Akaka, Dennis Kamakahi, George Kuo, Jeff Peterson, Jerry Santos, Makana, Palani Vaughan, Sonny Lim, and many many more of the finest Hawaiian music artists.
